Our field events programme usually includes a mothing event, opening up a moth trap after a summer night's trapping.

 Common Blue butterflies are seen mainly around the Wildflower Meadow

For the last five years a group of Green Team members have surveyed butterflies in Barton Fields as part of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme. The survey involves 27 weekly transects, in the period April to September, and is undertaken by five volunteers, on a rota.

Purple Emperor

Our main Butterfly field event in 2013 was to see the Purple Emperor. In all, 17 species of butterfly were seen with 5 species of day-flying moths.
